In Character

3. Cookie Monster: The cookie monster is quite impactful on our country for one reason. He loves cookies. the cookie monster is a positive influence both because kids love that the only thing he wants is cookies and because he would never do bad things to get that very cookie. Cookie has quite a history. He didn't even start off as the cookie monster, he started off as a monster on commercials who ate junk food. He has been transformed into a positive role model for children on the ever-so-loved show, Sesame Street.

Bugs Bunny: Bugs is very important to american history because he is one of the most well known characters in the world. He's the loveable jokester that everyone knows. Bugs Bunny has no rules to follow, not even the ones of gravity. He does what he wants, when he wants and most the time he only does it to make people mad. Bugs is important in america because he represents what everyone wants to do, play by their own rules.

4. The Simpsons: The simpsons are very important to American culture because in a way, they represent most families in America. There is a character that covers every trait possible. Marge is the caring and loving mother, Homer is the lazy slob father, Bart is the troublemaking son, Lisa is the intellectual daughter, and Maggie just seems down to earth. The family covers such a broad display of traits that it might even be hard to see how theyre related. Other than they all look alike. The Simpsons are very important because a lot of americans can relate to them.

Characteristics of a well told story

Part 1: Stories are important to childhood because they usually teach important life lessons. People read stories to children to put them to sleep and so the kids learn life lessons. from stories kids learn what they should do in certain situations.

Part 2: Older people read stories because the older you get the more interested you get in books. Older readers learn to read better and they also get more important life lessons from reading. the more you read, the more you know.

Part 3: Stories are important to our nation for many different reasons. Authors can use stories to teach people about things that are going on that readers might not already know about. Stories fit into our national identity because a lot of great books have come from America. America could possibly be known for some of the stories that it writes.

Part 4: One story that i remember from when i was a little kid was about this kid who was weak and then he ate some avocados and he became really strong and was the strongest in the neighborhood. The moral of the story was that kids should eat right if they want to grow up big and strong.

Part 5:
1. Make the falling action as interesting as the rising action
2. Make sure there is plenty of unnecesary violence
3. there should be some mystery
4. There should be well thought out dialogue
5. The conflict should be very clear
6. The ending should always be good and make people cry
7. The turning point of the movie should be obvious

Free Write

I am looking forword to the snow melting so much. I cannot wait until spring. As soon as the snow melts i can go do things out side which is so nice. Also i wont have to wear heavy clothes anymore which is really annoying after a while. It's also really nice to see the sun most days. Another good thing about spring is rugby starts. Rugby is a lot of fun and it gets me in good shape. We will be starting outside practices when the snow melts. Which is just another reason i want the snow to melt. And it just feels like its been dark and gloomy for ever because winter is very long. The coming of spring usually means the coming of summer and that means school is out which is just absolutely awesome.

Poetry Critique

1. Just waking up in the morning gotta thank God
I don't know but today seems kinda odd
No barking from the dogs, no smog
And momma cooked a breakfast with no hog
I got my grub on, but didn't pig out
Finally got a call from a girl wanna take out
Hooked it up on later as I hit the do'
Thinking will i live, another twenty-fo'
I gotta go cause I got me a drop top And if I hit the switch,
I can make the back drop
Had to stop at a red light Looking in my mirror not a jacker in sight
And everything is alright
I got a beep from Kim and she can sleep all night
Called up the homies and I'm askin y'all
Which court, are y'all playin basketball?
Get me on the court and I'm trouble
Last week messed around and got a triple double
Freaking brothers everyway like M.J.
I can't believe, today was a good day

Drove to the pad and hit the showers
Didn't even get no static from the cowards
Cause just yesterday them fools tried to blast me
Saw the police and they rolled right past me
No flexin, didn't even look in a brothers direction as I ran the intersection
Went to $hort Dog's house, they was watchin Yo! MTV Raps
What's the haps on the craps
Shake em up, shake em up, shake em up, shake em
Roll em in a circle of brothers and watch me break em
With the seven, seven-eleven, seven-eleven
Seven even back do' lil Joe
I picked up the cash flow Then we played bones, and I'm yellin domino.
Plus nobody I know got killed in South Central L.A.
Today was a good day

Left my buddy's house paid Picked up a girl been tryin to meet since the twelve grade
It's ironic, I had the brew she had the chronic
The Lakers beat the Supersonics
I felt on the big fat fanny Pulled out the jammy, and killed the punanny
Woke her up around one she didn't hesitate, to call Ice Cube the top gun
Drove her to the pad and I'm coasting
Took another sip of the potion hit the three-wheel motion
I was glad everything had worked out
Dropped her butt off, then I chirped out
Today was like one of those fly dreams
Didn't even see a berry flashing those high beams
No helicopter looking for a murder
Two in the morning got the fat burger
Even saw the lights of the Goodyear Blimp
And it read Ice Cube's a pimp
Drunk as hell but no throwing up
Half way home and my pager still blowing up
Today I didn't even have to use my A.K.
I got to say it was a good day.

2. I selected this poem because its a rap song about a good day. It's not about murder, drugs, gangs, or all those other things that rap songs are mainly about.
3. The title of this song is It Was A Good Day. I think this title is very fitting to the song because the whole song is about Ice Cube's day and how nothing bad happened it was all good. The song is just him talking about his day from when he wakes up to when he goes back to his house to sleep.
4. Ice Cube uses a lot of different metaphors in this song. Some of the metaphors he uses are drop top for convertible, static meaning trouble, pad meaning house, berry meaning police car, and break em meaing take their money. I think these metaphors put emphasis on the words.
5. The tone of this song portrays happiness because Ice Cube is glad he had a good day. This is significant because Ice Cube lived in South Central LA and when you live there you dont usually have good days like the one in this song.

Writing Territories

2. Overall I'd say I am not that talented of a writer, but i get by. I wouldn't ever see myself as becoming an author or anything like that but I can get through school writing assignments. The kinds of writing that i enjoy reading are mostly short stories about something exciting. What i like to write is short stories that i can just make up on the spot because i feel that those are really easy and somewhat fun to write just to see what you can come up with. I usually never write outside of school. The topics that intrigue me are anything about action i find easier to read.

3. One person I would really like to meet is Andre Young. He's probably the person i look up to most just because he pretty much got rap popular and more and more people started to like it. If i could hang out with Andre for just one day i would be very happy. Some people know Andre Young as Dr. Dre. Him and Snoop would be really tight to hang out with. Just going to Cali and rolling around all day and spittin rhymes is pretty much my main dream.

Toward The Future/From The Past

1. I got annoyed because the set could have been way more complicated if it was a movie rather than a play. I also didn't like explaining the stage directions and all that stuff on every scene. which is why movies are better than plays. the strengths i saw were i think it was fairly easy to write. The pleasant and unpleasant suprises that i found are the same as the previous two questions.

2. If i were to give a 10 year old advice it would be about school. I would probably tell him that grades dont really matter until 9th grade and its only important that you learn the stuff so you have it for later use. once you get into 9th grade is when you actually have to start trying. My advice would be based on experience because i have attended those grades and i know that it doesnt matter at all what grades you get until 9th grade. It only matters whether you fail or not because then that is bad news.

3. I think great literary works last for such a long time because they are really good works of art. people write good plays and lots of people like them so they last for a long time. No i dont think i could see myself writing something that will last for a long time just because i cant see myself writing a book or play outside of school. And I'm flat out just not talented enough to write a good play or movie or book that other people would like so much to show it to their children and grandchildren.

2-12-08

1. The theme is one of the most important pieces in a movie or book. I dont think a great piece of literature necessarily needs to express an idea to be a good work but most literature pieces do express a clear message. Back to the subject of theme, I believe that theme is a necesity to a good play. A clear theme can make a story or literature piece be much better.

2. In the rare event that i might write a play I think the theme would be not very complicated. It would be a short simple theme but i would try to tie in more complex meanings behind the simple main theme. It would be crazy. An idea of a simplistic yet complicated theme would probably be something having to do with pirates. Pirates are the ultimate G's. They do what they want, when they want. If you steal their gold, you're as good as dead.

3. I would have many different conflicts all through out the play. All different kinds of conflicts would be in my play. it would be the best play ever. Self v. self, person v. person, self vs. nature, and so much more. As i already said, it would be the best play ever. I would do a bunch of different conflicts just because it would be very easy to make a play with a bunch of different stories. It would either turn out good or really really bad
